  1. Pray for the children and parents regularly and by name. You will develop a closeness to them and an awareness of their needs.
  2. Be hospitable. Greet the child and parents by name. When the children leave, give them a cheerful good-bye and tell them, “See you next week!” Thank the parents for bringing their children to Sunday School.
  3. Feature the children’s names and their work on classroom and hallway bulletin boards. Decorate the door and entry way to your classroom to make your class look like a “happening” place.
  4. Talk informally with the parents at church. Take an interest in their lives; ask them about their work, hobbies, family. Share with them positive observations about their children. Parents love to hear their children praised!
  5. Make a home connection. Stop by your students’ homes for a short visit. Ask the child to show you some of his/her favorite toys or pets. When a child is absent, telephone the parents within a day or two to see if the child is well.
  6. Keep the parents informed about what is going on in class. Communicate the theme that you are studying, the Bible verses the children are learning, and any special events that will be taking place.
