StudentSunday School changes students’ lives! You probably agreed with that statement wholeheartedly when you agreed to teach Sunday School. However, after the wear and tear of teaching, you might need a refresher of Sunday School’s importance. Never forget: Your teaching can make a difference for eternity!

Think about the important benefits Sunday School provides your students.

A personal relationship with God. Your students can know God personally! As you introduce them to salvation through Christ, they discover that God loves them in an intimate way and cares about every detail of their lives.

A home for eternity. Your students will never he homeless once they receive Christ as Savior. They will have a heavenly Home, now and for eternity! You can help them know the answer to the question “What happens when we die?”

A reason for living. Some people spend their lifetime searching for the purpose of their lives. In Sunday School children learn early in life that their purpose is to serve and glorify Jesus Christ.

A guide for decision-making. Self-help and self-improvement books are always on best-seller lists. But Sunday School students learn how to make wise decisions from the best guidebook ever—the Bible!

A set of friends. School, sports, neighborhoods, and clubs provide a pool of friends for students, but will these friends be a positive influence? At Sunday School they can make healthy friendships with other students who love the Lord.

A strong set of ethics. In this world, where people often use circumstances to determine right and wrong, it’s reassuring to know that there is absolute truth—the Word of God. Students will experience joy in life as they learn and follow God’s ethics.

A sense of family. Whether or not students have an immediate family who loves and cares for them, they have a church family who is deeply concerned about their welfare. Sunday School students learn how to pray for and take care of one another.

A feeling of security. The routine of going to Sunday School, seeing teachers and friends, singing familiar songs, reciting Bible verses, experiencing classroom routines, and obeying behavioral rules gives students a sense of security. Once they ask Jesus to be their Savior, they can have the security of knowing they are in God’s family forever.

A sense of discipline. Sunday School kids develop discipline. They learn to wait, share, listen, speak in a kind manner, and obey. They experience the mental discipline of praying, memorizing Scripture, and preparing for music programs and plays. The skills they develop in Sunday School carry over into their school performance and into their social relationships.

A healthy self-image. While unchurched peers may base self-worth on achievements, popularity, or physical attractiveness, Sunday School students learn they have great value because they are made in the image of God. He created every part of them. He sent His Son to die for them. He esteems them highly. Even when they experience failure, they know that God accepts and loves them.

Wow! Isn’t Sunday School a great tool for building strong, successful, godly lives? Where else would you have the opportunity to make such an important contribution? Keep teaching. Make your Sunday School classroom the best it can be!
